My name is Shannon Martin. Born in 1983.
As an artist, I draw inspiration from the diverse currents that have shaped my life, a blend of nature's wildness, all things spooky and whimsical, and the quiet history held within antiques. My journey into art is a winding path, not a straight line, which is why I consider myself a jack-of-many-trades rather than a master of one. I embrace the freedom of bouncing between different mediums, allowing my art to evolve spontaneously and reflect the eclectic passions that move me in the moment.
From a young age, Halloween was a celebrated tradition, fostering a deep love for all things gothic and eerie—a passion I inherited from my parents. Yet, my heart truly finds its rhythm in the spring. I am captivated by the earthy scent of life reawakening and the tangible magic of a new season. This duality of loving both the mysterious darkness of autumn and the vibrant rebirth of spring is a core theme in my work.
My art is also deeply rooted in nature, which offered me a path to healing during a difficult time. The quiet wisdom found during a hike—nestled among the trees—showed me that the answers I sought were right there in front of me. This experience solidified my belief in the power of nature as a source of both inspiration and comfort.
I don't follow a specific aesthetic, but I believe this allows for true, unfiltered creativity. My work is a direct reflection of my inner world, a collection of emotions, interests, and moments that appear through my creations in unexpected ways.
I create in hopes of sharing this passion with you, and that they will find a home where they can bring a bit of whimsy, magic, or solace.
This journey, and all of my creations, are dedicated to my Dad, Edward Mundie. We always inspired each other, and I miss him every day. I continue to create with his words in my heart, remembering to "Always Look Up." Even though he is no longer on earth side, his guidance and our shared passions will forever inspire me to keep creating.
